Huntingtons - High School Rock

Huntingtons - High School Rock
Year: 1998 Tooth & Nail Records | CD#: TND 1103 | File-host: RS.com
FLAC-image + Mp3 @320 CBR | Complete Artwork (600dpi) | WinRAR Recovery 5%
Punk-Rock | CD-length 32:20 | 270 MB (FLAC) | 74 MB (Mp3)

EAC Secure-rip + LOG + CUE | Source: my CD-collection

This record is a non-stop punk rock adventure, and the exceptional talent of the band is complimented once again by Mass Giorgini's tremendous production talents. Included are some great songs, all full of the band's stand-out characteristics: the fast, tight (albeit slightly monotonous) drums and blazing, Ramones-influenced guitar and vocals. I especially liked the song, "1985," which contains actual samples from Back to the Future. Also notable is "Jeannie Hates the Ramones," as anyone's disdain for that band would certainly spark concern in the songwriting minds of the Huntingtons. "Avi is a Vampire" is a cool song, which ends with a nifty rock & roll instrumental part, which will make you want to hit "play" again. [BVM]

Album recorded December 2–December 16, 1997 at the Sonic Iguana in Lafayette, Indiana, USA.

Produced and Engineered by Mass Giorgini
Assisted by Zac Damon, Denny Muller, and Fergus Daly
Drum Tech: Dan Lumley
Mixed, Edited and Sequenced by Mass Giorgini.
Mastered by Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman's
Executive Producer: Brandon Ebel

Band line-up:

Mikey Huntington: Vocals/Bass
Cliffy Huntington: Guitar/Vocals
Mikee Huntington: Drums
Bradley Huntington: Guitar/Vocals

Additional musicians:

Teakettle Jones - casiotone
Zac Damon - additional vocals on tracks 6, 7, 8, and 15
Dan Lumley - tambourine

Buzz-saw rock band the Huntingtons have done it again. With High School Rock, that is, they have made another Ramones record, via some Delaware dynamite. By the way, that is no put down, it is a tribute to New York's finest punk rock band and what the Huntingtons do; no one does it better. The Huntingtons are Mikey Huntington, vocals and bass; Cliffy Huntington, guitar and vocals; Mikee Huntington, drums; and Bradley Huntington, guitars and vocals. This is Brad's first recording as a full time Huntington, and the band's first record on Tooth and Nail.

This bright record sounds great. Recorded in two weeks with Mass Giorgini at the boards for the second time, the Huntingtons sprint through these sixteen songs without a hitch, and, like their shows, without much break either. One song leads into the next, for a continuous flow of molten rock and roll. Like all Huntington records the lyrical subjects are high school dances, relationships, girl friends, hanging out and being different. Track seven is called "Jeannie Hates the Ramones," the singer is going to have to leave his girl friend, Jeannie, because she hates his favorite band, the Ramones. In fact, she makes fun of them and even coughs on his records. Bye Jeannie, we can't have that on a Huntingtons record. There is also a tribute song to Back to the Future called "1985", and a couple of songs at the end of the record that even mention God--sort of... "Jackie is an Atheist" is about a cool young girl that is into the band, knows all the songs, and goes to all the shows, but won't change her mind about her faith, no matter how much the guys talk to her. They conclude "just give her some time". The last song is about Avi, a guy who likes to dress in black, and make up, he kinda looks like a vampire, but he's a real cool guy:

'cuz he knows God and all that stuff...
He just likes to get a rise out of the normal folks,
he's just the same as you and me under those silly jokes.

The Huntingtons are tight, rockin' fun. For the band's fourth full length album, the musical recipe seems to be two bags of Ramones, 1½ cups of One Bad Pig, with a pinch of beach music, ala New York City, thrown in. If you like the sound of that, you'll like the Huntingtons's, High School Rock.

Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time (1985)

Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time (1985)
FLAC Individuals | Modern Rock - Alternative Rock - New Wave | EAC Rip (No LOG or CUE Files) | 258 MB | RS Links

Okay, so a few years later they blew it (largely due to Mick McNeil leaving the band and depriving them of the musical alchemy shared between himself and Mr.Burchill) but at this time in their career, Simple Minds had reached their peak. I disagree with anyone who slags this album off for being too "big" or "pompous". Yes it was, but so were Queen and so can U2 be, but isn't that why people love them??? I'm not taking anything away from the earlier albums "Life In Day", etc , "Sons and Fascination" had some great ideas and, arguable "New Gold Dream" is more subtle and mysterious and "Sparkle..."more… a some cracking tunes, but "Once Upon A Time" had greater ambitions and wanted to take this one step further. Jimmy Iovine was an excellent choice of producer, and let's not forget, this was the mid 80s and it was the right choice of record for this time. As for the tunes. I would defend the beautiful symphonic melodies of the title track, "All The Things She Said" for its uplifting middle coda, "Alive and Kickings" fantastic singalong moments, "Sanctify Yourself" for it's sheer power, "Wish You Were Here's" old style Mind's subtlety and "Come Along Way" for it's sheer haunting playout (Mr.Gaynor's drums never sounded so good!).

Track Listing:
1. "Once Upon a Time" – 5:44
2. "All the Things She Said" – 4:16

New Wave / Synth-Pop / Dance-Pop

The Thompson Twins who were neither a duo nor related, but simply named after the Tin Tin cartoon were one of the more popular synth-pop groups of the early MTV era, scoring a handful of hits before fading away into lite-funk obscurity. While many of their contemporaries indulged in stylish variations on Roxy Music or robotic electronic funk, the Thompson Twins were more pop-oriented, even when they strayed into dance-pop. Despite their success "Hold Me Now," "Lay Your Hands on Me," "King for a Day" all reached the U.S. Top Ten the group was unable to successfully expand their synth-pop sound and, consequently, their audience had virtually disappeared by the late '80s. (AMG)

Big Trash was a successful attempt to add a stronger rhythmic sensibility to The Thompson Twins' sound, but the album failed to produce any hit bigger than the number 28 "Sugar Daddy," although there were several other strong numbers on the record.

Tracklist:

01. Sugar Daddy (3:31)
02. Queen Of The U.S.A. (3:44)
03. Bombers In The Sky (3:56)
04. This Girl's On Fire (3:11)

Included in Q's "100 Best Punk Albums" - "...This album shows that they were certainly more than one-trick ponies, collecting together the classic 'Sound Of The Suburbs' with 18 other almost-classics..."

True to its subtitle, this 18-track collection compiles the finest moments of the band's two-year stay at Virgin Records (1979-1980). While this period was the strongest for the band, it would have been nice to include a track or two from their final album, Uprhythm, Downbeat, such as the near-hit "Working Girl." [AMG]

Very pleasant surprise!

Excellent production values and good song choices help this best of collection rise above the crowd. The Members were an upbeat, lively late 70's early 80's band successfully combining reggae rhythms with punk attitude and populist ideals. Standout tracks on this collection include the sound of the suburbs, muzak machine, solitary confinement, Sally, glc, brian was. An excellent job these are fun songs not horribly lost in time. The largest missing item would be the absence of Working Girl, which was their most popular song in the US. I was fortunate enough to see them live in Columbia, SC in 1983 and they blew the crowd away with their talent and presence. Check it out!

Review by Roch Parisien
As an album title, Hits is an intentionally ironic misnomer for one of Australia's most influential rock bands of the late '70s and early '80s. Having "hits" was the furthest thing from the Birthday Party's collective mind over the course of five tumultuous years that followed the group's move to England from Down Under; the members reviled anything that hinted at mainstream acceptance. Ten years on, the intensity of this music is still frightening. It's a dense, mutant hybrid that evolved from punk, progressive rock, funk, and improvisational jazz, without directly owning up to any of these base materials. Vocalist Nick Cave (who has gone on to an equally creative solo career) didn't just sing about society's dark, depraved underbelly, he lived the experience right there on disc and on stage.

John Oates - Solo: The Album/The Concert (2006)

John Oates "Solo: The Album/The Concert"
MP3 | CBR 320 Kbps 44100 Stereo | 54:35 | 134.96Mb
2006 | Genre: Rock | Pop | Funk | Songwriter

It's not very often that a musician with a lifetime of experience and success gets to be rediscovered by both the public and himself...but that's the case with the John Oates solo project, "Phunk Shui". After 30 years as a professional recording artist, John finally made his first CD without his longtime partner, Daryl Hall. It's ironic that after waiting all this time, it took less than a month to pick the songs, find a label, put a band together, record and mix the entire project.

The songs are a well-crafted collection of sure to be pop classics many written in collaboration with writers such as Keith Follese, Jed Leiber, Arthur Baker, and Steve Postell. Then there is the killer band: Steve Holley on drums, Tom "T-Bone" Wolk on bass, Jed Leiber on keyboards and of course, John on guitar.

The sound is a blend of 70's inspired funk and acoustic soul. Listening to Phunk Shui is like having an old friend over for dinner, and then after eating, he pulls out his guitar and sings for you. You know you have heard this guy sing before, but just maybe never realized how much depth there was to the man.

Track List:

01 - Color Of Love
02 - It Girl
03 - All Good People
04 - Love In A Dangerous Time
05 - Unspoken
06 - Soul Slide

Pirate Radio Numero Uno are doing what CBS should have done - that is, releasing all this excellent Clash material in superb professional artwork. This is a must item to have.
The show is blistering from start to finish. Excellent performances of the songs, especially London Calling and The Magnificent Seven. Ivan Meets G.I. Joe is particularly faithful to the studio version as well and you?ll notice the drumming becomes a tad weaker as Topper diverts his efforts to singing and remembering the lyrics! The Guns Of Brixton is a truly excellent version. Police & Thieves deserves a mention - there?s a bit of a pause before it kicks in ?Yeah this is Police & Thieves? - and Charlie Don?t Surf is one of the best live versions. The band seem to struggle a bit performing Broadway, but a great version can be found on the London Lyceum 1981 show. In total there are eleven tracks from Sandinista!, which is nearly half the set, and what with the addition of Radio Clash - again perhaps the best live performance of this song - it leaves little room for older material. Never fear though, because White Man is in there and is excellent (though there is a slight glitch in the recording 1 minute 38 seconds in) and the traditional near the end track Janie Jones is another excellent performance. Complete Control is the exact same version as that which appeared on the official live album - they also get the date wrong in the inner notes saying it was June 13th. A great performance, one of the best of this great song.

?Wikipedia:
Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel (born February 19, 1963 in Paddington, London) is an Anglo-Nigerian soul singer and songwriter. He is professionally known only by his first name, Seal. He won three Grammy Awards for his 1995 single "Kiss from a Rose".

As the vocalist on the Adamski single "Killer", Seal came to fame when the single reached number one in 1990 in the UK. Like many other Adamski tracks, the single was also a hit in night clubs. Seal subsequently signed to ZTT Records and released his debut album (produced by Trevor Horn), titled Seal, in 1991. Two versions of the album are known to be in circulation: the original "premix" version and a second, more common version with an updated mix. This is attributed to the demand for a produced single rushing the final album edit, and as Seal puts it, his and producer Horn's "inability to let go."

Seal was born Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel on February 19, 1963 in Kilburn, a small town near Paddington, England to a Nigerian father and Brazilian mother. Shortly after his birth he was sent away to white foster parents near London to be reclaimed by his mother when he was four. Two years later she fell ill and returned to her homeland, sending Seal to live with his father, who he claims abused him. Seal ran away at the age of 15, only to return years later to transport his father's remains to Nigeria. He graduated with a degree in architecture and has worked at McDonald's, as an electrical engineer and a leather clothing designer. In the 1980s he joined Push, an English funk band, and toured with them in Japan. In Asia, he joined a blues band in Thailand for awhile before separating from the group and journeying throughout India on his own.

When Seal arrived back in England, he met Adamski, a producer who was impressed by him. He was given the lyrics of the song "Killer", which was a huge hit in 1990.

As a young man, Seal was diagnosed with the skin condition discoid lupus, which left him with distinctive facial scars on his upper cheeks.

Seal married German supermodel Heidi Klum on May 10, 2005, on a beach in Mexico. During an interview on Live With Regis And Kelly, Seal stated that he proposed to Klum "On top of a mountain in Whistler, Canada". Seal and Heidi have two sons, Henry Gnther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, born September 12, 2005 and Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, born November 22, 2006 in Los Angeles, California.

?allmusic:
U.K. pop sensation Seal has become notorious for taking extended breaks between albums (usually up to four years). On his third album, Human Being, producer Trevor Horn again joins Seal, and as on his past releases, life's trials and tribulations are used as the basis for the song's subject matter and lyrics (broken relationships, death, etc.). Horn again helps Seal achieve an unbelievably sonically rich album -- with each listen, you hear something you didn't before. The moderately paced, grooving opening track, "Human Beings," merges Seal's trademark soothing and crooned vocals with lyrics that deal with the highly publicized deaths of gangsta rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. Directly after, three instant Seal classics follow -- the gentle "State of Grace" and "Just Like You," plus the dance-rocker "Latest Craze." Other highlights include the ethereal beauty of "Still Love Remains," the gradually building "Excerpt From," and the moving "Colour." Although Seal fans might grow impatient with such long breaks between albums, the pop perfection of Human Being turns out to be well worth the wait.
