Carlos Augusto Santana Alves (born July 20, 1947 in Jalisco, Mexico) is a Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock musician and guitarist. He became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which created a highly successful blend of rock, salsa, and jazz fusion. The band's sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin percussion such as timbales and congas. Santana continued to work in these forms over the following decades. He experienced a sudden resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the late 1990s. Rolling Stone also named Santana number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. This is the second solo album by Icelandic cellist Hildur Ingveldardóttir Gudnadóttir who is best known for her collaborations with Múm and Pan Sonic.

It's the space between the notes, the restraint and expectation, that packs the biggest emotional punch on this incredibly moving recording, never allowing those 'cinematic' qualities to get in the way of the genuine dread and catharsis resting at the core of this magnificent album." Without Sinking is Hildur Ingveldardóttir Gudnadóttir's second solo album and her first for Touch. [Mount A was released on the Icelandic label '12 Tónar' in 2006.] Hildur flew so much during 2007 and 2008 that she spent alot of time staring at clouds through the airplane window, considering their appearance and formation... She says: "My aim with this record was to create a feeling of breath with a bow on string. I wanted to create a sky and cloud-like feeling in the compositions. I wanted to have open space for single notes and let them breath, like single clouds in a clear sky. As a contrast I also wanted create denser and heavier compositions which were more thundercloud like. I like the way clouds form, how many tiny droplets can form such dense forms and then slowly evaporate into thin string-like ones."

Mount A was an intensely solo work, composed and recorded in winter darkness, a solitary, rural affair. Without Sinking was recorded in Berlin, mostly during the summer of 2008; also Hildur has collaborated with Icelandic musicians Jóhann Jóhannsson and bassist Skúli Sverrisson. Her father, Guðni Franzson, also guests playing clarinet on two tracks here. This collaborative process is reflected in a much more open sound; there is more space and you can hear the air. The album was mixed by Valgeir Sigurðsson and Hildur at Greenhouse Studios, Iceland.

Recorded in April 2000, this CD finds Peterson joining forces with Michel Legrand, who conducts a lush 24-piece string orchestra.

Commissioned by MusicCanadaMusique 2000, the legendary jazz pianist created Trail of Dreams: A Canadian Suite as an ode to the places and people of Canada. Inspired by the 16,000-kilometer, coast-to-coast recreation trail, Trail of Dreams: A Canadian Suite is comprised of twelve compositions: "Open Spaces," "Morning in Newfoundland," "The Okanagan Valley," "Dancetron," "Ballad to P.E.I.," "Cookin’ on the Trail," "Banff the Beautiful," "Lonesome Prairie," "The French Fiddler," "Harcourt Nights," "Manitoba Minuet" and "Anthem to a New Land." Explains Peterson, "I feel that the music speaks to the picturesque and photographic scenic quality of various places in Canada that the Trans Canada Trail passes through". On this latest recording, composer and pianist are on equal terms as Montreal-born Peterson leads his quartet (Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius, Danish bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and British drummer Martin Drew) with a 24-piece string orchestra under the direction of Michel Legrand, the illustrious French composer, conductor, orchestrator and pianist. Legrand’s memorable film tracks include "The Windmills of Your Mind" (from The Thomas Crown Affair), "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and "The Summer Knows" (the theme from Summer of ‘42). He has won three Oscars and two Grammy awards, and has collaborated with stars such as Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand. Best known for his brilliant playing, Peterson is equally accomplished as a composer. His lengthy list of compositional credits include 1964’s Canadiana, a suite that traced the escape route used by blacks during the slavery era. This time, he has teamed up with Legrand to expand the vistas to include more elaborate musical structures. Norman Granz brought Oscar Peterson to New York City in 1949 for the first Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) tour. Peterson went on to lead two of the most popular jazz trios in the world, one with bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Herb Ellis, the other with Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen. Today, Peterson has more than 200 recordings to his credit, along with seven Grammies, the Glenn Gould Prize in 1993, and, in June of 1999, he received the prestigious Japanese Praemium Imperiale Award.
