Although Willie Nelson's two albums for Atlantic Records -- Shotgun Willie and Phases and Stages -- were among his most unsuccessful records commercially, they were groundbreaking, pivotal releases that rank among his finest and most introspective works. Musically, both albums straddle the lines between outlaw country, folk, and traditional pop -- they are innovative, introspective works that sounded unlike his previous work. Additionally, both records are concept albums, with each of the songs intertwining to tell a story. Shotgun Willie is about a legendary outlaw; Phases and Stages is about a divorce, with the first side taking the perspective of the male, the second taking the female view point. Neither album produced big hits, but they are some of the strongest efforts Willie Nelson ever made, making this single-disc collection an excellent bargain.

About the album In Blue is the third album by Irish band The Corrs, released in 2000. With the release of this album, the Corrs became popular in the United States (see 2000 in music). As well as the UK number one single "Breathless", the album also contained new versions of "Radio" and "At Your Side", both of which had previously appeared on the 1999 MTV Unplugged album. Also included was "Rebel Heart", which was used as the theme for a BBC drama of the same name. "One Night" was used in the film Mad About Mambo. "At Your Side" was featured in the trailer for the film The Holiday. Many other songs from In Blue have been used in television programmes. The recordings were made at Westland Studios and Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland, during which Tim Martin was the engineer. Duets is an album made by the famous country music singer Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash, released in 2006.The album is made of duets by the singers mentioned before with song that Cash had previously released.

Country music's First Couple, Johnny Cash and June Carter began making beautiful music together in 1961, when she began touring with "The Man in Black." Born into one of America's great musical families in the 1920s, the Carter Family (comprising June's mother, the influential guitarist Maybelle, and her aunt and uncle, Sarah and A.P.) helped create the musical template still at work in bluegrass, "traditional" country, and some forms of folk. June made a name for herself by co-writing the huge hit 'Ring of Fire'. A Johnny Cash signature song, it topped Billboard's Country chart for seven weeks in 1963, cracking the Pop Top Twenty, as well. Contains the classics 'Jackson', and 'It Ain't Me, Babe'.

Oklahoma singer-songwriter Stoney LaRue should be no stranger to roots music fans who follow the ascending "Red Dirt" music scene based in Oklahoma. His debut release, "The Red Dirt Album," spelled out his allegiance once and for all to the Plains-centric genre launched by Bob Childers.

But while LaRue has spent most of his life north of the Red River, he enjoys one tie to the Coastal Bend: He was born in Taft. "I was 5 years old when we moved to Southeast Oklahoma,"LaRue started turning heads as leader of the Organic Boogie Band, an Oklahoma circuit ensemble based in Tulsa. The band, which formed in 2001, released "Downtown," a debut album recorded in Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa and mixed in a trailer on the side of a cliff in Bartlesville.

LaRue struck out on his own soon after and released "The Red Dirt Album" independently in August 2005. The disc contained songs that LaRue co-wrote with famed songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard and "Red Dirt" regular Cody Canada as well as covers of songs by Bob Dylan and Oklahoma's Red Dirt Rangers. One year later, LaRue recorded a live album for the "Live at Billy Bob's" CD series, which is named after the famous honky tonk in the Fort Worth stockyards.

Backed by drummer Jeremy Bryant, bassist Jesse Fritz, guitarist Kevin Webb, fiddle player Jeremy Watkins and keyboardist Steve Littleton, LaRue fills his schedules with scores of performances at clubs and festivals that have taken him as far as the Caribbean and Europe. The band has opened for a range of headliners including Lee Ann Womack, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Willie Nelson.

Marking her tenth year as an artist, her new album "Unmistakable" comes straight from the heart. Her most personal album yet, "Unmistakable" is the natural result of her maturing both as an individual and as an entertainer, and reflecting her own journey of self-discovery.

Since the launch of her debut album, "Girl Out of The Ordinary," Beverley’s music has touched a chord with a wide fan base, earning her multiple hit radio singles, numerous awards and an international following. She has worked with renowned producer David Foster to create the female trio Lace, and she has released a series of successful solo albums, including "Moody Blue," which yielded both a number one song and a number one video for the single, “The First Day You Wake up Alone.”

Today, Beverley is back in Nashville, the country music capital of the world, and is continuing to blaze trails not only for independent Canadian artists, but also for women in general. The title of West reflects the change in Lucinda Williams' life as she moved to Los Angeles. It also reflects what had been left behind. Williams is nothing if not a purely confessional songwriter. She continually walks in the shadowlands to bring out what is both most personal yet universal in her work, to communicate to listeners directly and without compromise. If Essence and World Without Tears took chances and stated different sides of the songwriter and her world, West jumps off the ledge into the sky of freedom, where anything can be said without worry of consequence and where anything can be said in any way she wishes. It's entirely appropriate that West was released on the day before Valentine's Day 2007, for it's a record about the heart, about its volumes of brokenness, about its acceptance of its state, and how, with the scars still visible to the bearer, it opens wider and becomes the font of love itself. But the journey is a dark one. First there's the music and the production. Williams chose Hal Willner to produce West. Williams, who'd been writing a lot, demoed some songs before she brought in Willner. He stripped down the demos but kept the scratch vocals. From there, the pair created the rest of the album together, never re-recording Williams' initial vocals. The vocals were accompanied by her guitar playing; Willner wanted her inherent phrasing and rhythmic flow. Willner also brought his own crew to play with Williams. This collaboration -- as unlikely as it might seem on the surface -- results in something utterly different and yet unmistakably Lucinda Williams. West is a warm, inviting, yet very dark record about grief, the loss of love, anger at a lover who cannot deliver, and embracing the possibility of change. In other words, it's not without its redemptive moments. Williams has put all of her qualities on display at once with an unbridled and unbowed sense of adventure here on her eighth album. She, her bandmates, and Willner have come up with exactly what pop music needs: a real work of art based in contemporary forms and feelings. West is Lucinda Williams' magnum opus thus far, an album that will no doubt attract more than a few new fans, and will give old ones, if they are open enough, a recording to relish. West is flawless; it is actually destined to become a classic.

Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, Fearless which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on 2008's Fearless: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "15," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard and settling into a warm bed of guitars and keyboards. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country there aren't fiddles here, there are violins yet Fearless never feels garish, a crass attempt at a crossover success. It's small-scale and sweetly tuneful, always seeming humble even when the power ballads build to a big close. Swift's gentle touch is as enduring as her songcraft, and this musical maturity may not quite jibe with her age but it does help make Fearless one of the best mainstream pop albums of 2008.

Remember The Judds from the mid-80’s…the Dixie Chicks from the late-90’s…the Wilkinsons and their '26 Cents' debut in 1999??

Well…there’s somebody new coming on board in 2008 who will make you forget about all of those memorable debuts. The Higgins, a family trio comprised of sisters, Eileen and Kathleen, and their guitar-pickin’ brother John, have released their debut album, appropriately entitled Real Thing, and it's loaded with exactly that - the real thang !! The Higgins harmonize in that preternatural way only siblings can, and the music is jaunty. The exception is 'Factory Girl', an a cappella tour de force that recalls some of Alison Krauss’s stellar work for “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”- it’s THAT good.

The lead single, 'Flower Child' has already introduced The Higgins to country radio from coast to coast in Canada…such an auspicious debut that the single and the supporting video have hit the top of their respective charts.

The Real Thing album is simply loaded with robust, acoustic-flavoured material, most of it originally created by all three siblings. They have a hand in co-writing all but four of the selections on their debut offering, and the ‘imported’ tunes are perfectly suited to the musical mystique that The Higgins deliver. Ironically, the album’s title track, 'Real Thing' is one of the tunes from outside sources, in this case a collaboration by Canadian writers Deric Ruttan (of Dierks Bentley fame) and Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw, co-founders of Canadian group Doc Walker. The song was a “no brainer” when it came to deciding a title for the album…just the perfect story…the perfect hook.

Other tunes from the album that will solicit immediate reaction include a bouncy, 'Sounds Of Summer'; the crusty, '16 Going On 30', a zesty, 'Second Hand Car', and winners like 'I Got No Time', 'Wild Horse' and 'My Way Of Thinking'.

To put an exclamation mark on The Higgins’ sound, and the strength of their album, one only has to listen to their cover version of 'Rhythm Guitar', a tune they have borrowed from Emmylou Harris’ 1985, Ballad Of Sally Rose Lp. The excitement from the voices of Eileen, Kathleen and John on this particular number alone is raw and penetrating…and could easily be the ‘sleeper’ item on their record.
