“After the departure of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in 1979, Black Sabbath's line-up slowly lost stability in late 1983 and never quite recovered. Following a couple of one-off reunions in 1985 and 1992, the original line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward got back together for good in 1997.

This 2-CD live album was put together from the first two shows after the reunion, at the Birmingham NEC. Along with live versions of tracks such as "Paranoid", "N.I.B.", "Black Sabbath" and "Iron Man", it also features two new studio tracks - "Selling My Soul" and "Psycho Man". This was the only new material to have been officially released by Black Sabbath post-reunion until three new tracks appeared on the post-Ozzy compilation Black Sabbath: The Dio Years in 2007. The two new tracks on Reunion were also released on a single CD in the USA.

Though the band were considered legends by this time, this was the first "official" live album featuring Osbourne on vocals. 1980's Live at Last was not approved for release by the band.

In 1955 the difference between East/West Coast jazz was a hot topic, with critics and fans capable of taking zealous musical alliances with one or the other. The title of this disc, West Coast Jazz, was conceived as a joke, considering all musicians involved were originally from the East Coast and did not play exclusively in the laid-back, commercially profitable, cool style, as pigeonholed by some. Stan Getz was in California for his part in the film the Benny Goodman Story, where he picked up a week long gig at Zardi's in Hollywood. The pickup band that greeted him featured a great rhythm section: Lou Levy (piano), Leroy Vinnegar (bass), and Shelly Manne (drums), along with Conte Candoli (trumpet). These musicians connected with Getz immediately, having crossed paths previously. Impressed with this lineup, he took them into the studio to record West Coast Jazz. Generally unlike West Coast jazz of the time, the rapid group interplay with energized bop solos, still stand out particularly on "S-H-I-N-E" and Dizzy Gillespie's "A Night in Tunisia." Coupled with the album's original six tracks, the Verve Master Edition collects several previously released outtakes from these sessions.

The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time was the cover story of a special issue of Rolling Stone magazine published in November 2004. It was chosen based on votes by 172 musicians, critics, and industry figures.
The list is partial to Anglophone countries as it is largely composed of American and British artists: out of the 500 songs, 357 are from the United States and 117 are from the United Kingdom; the third most represented country is Ireland with 12 entries, then Canada with 10. The list includes just one song not in English ("La Bamba" by Ritchie Valens) and only three songs from the 21st century. Have just two songs from the 1940s: Rollin' Stone by Muddy Waters and Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" from 1949 (#111). The most recent is OutKast's 2003 hit "Hey Ya!" (#180). With 23 songs on the list, The Beatles are the most represented musical act. John Lennon is the only artist to place multiple songs in the top 10 (as a member of the Beatles and as a solo artist). The Beatles are followed by The Rolling Stones (14 entries); Bob Dylan (12); Elvis Presley (11); The Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix (seven each); and Chuck Berry, U2, James Brown, Prince, Led Zeppelin and Sly & the Family Stone (six each).

“Like their hometown of Las Vegas, the Killers have a flair for anything supersize, sparkly and over-the-top: soaring synth-pop operas, multipart arena-rock anthems, "Bohemian Rhapsody"-style choirs. So it makes sense that, after 2006's massively ambitious Sam's Town, their third studio album expands their scope even further, adding subtle world-music accents to their glittery New Wave anthems — fitting for a band bent on international megastardom. Produced by dance maven Stuart Price, Day & Age broadens the Killers' sound with dub-inflected grooves ("Joyride"), Caribbean-style steel drums ("I Can't Stay") and a chanted intro that recalls South Africa's Lady­smith Black Mambazo ("This Is Your Life") — though it's performed by the band itself.

When the Killers really push the theatrics, they shine: "Spaceman" re-imagines New Order's "Temptation" as an alien-abduction anthem with a great singalong chorus. And the rousing "A Dustland Fairytale" moves from somber pianos to an orchestral conclusion so epic, you half-expect some kind of fairy godmother to swoop in and save singer Brandon Flowers. Too bad all that drama sometimes weighs down Flowers — he's developed quite a persecution complex. "Run and tell your friends I'm losing touch," he scoffs on "Losing Touch," and by "Neon Tiger" he's giving himself pep talks: "They'll strategize and name you/But don't you let them tame you!" Relax, dude. With imagination like this, you're doing fine.

Singer/songwriter Danny O'Keefe began his musical career in the Minnesota coffeehouse scene in the 1960's In 1969, a meeting with Buffalo Springfield manager Charles Greene led to a telephone audition with Ahmet Ertegun, President of Atlantic Records, resulting in O'Keefe's first record deal.

Throughout the 1970s and into 80's, O'Keefe toured with many well-known artists and friends including, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Buffet, Jessie Colin Young, Maria Muldaur, Linda Ronstadt, Loggins and Messina, and the Hollies. He has also performed on the same bill with acts such as Bruce Springsteen, YES, Tom Waits, John Hammond, Little Feat, Rita Coolidge, Dr. John, The Beach Boys, and others.

Danny’s new recording, “In Time”, was two and a half years in the making, it is a collection of moving reflections of a life lived in music.

“How does an instant multimillion-selling album become underrated? George Harrison's follow-up to All Things Must Pass was necessarily a letdown for fans and critics, appearing after a two-and-a-half-year interval without the earlier album's backlog of excellent songs from which to draw. And it does seem like Harrison narrowed his sights and his vision for this record, which has neither the bold expansiveness nor the overwhelming confidence of its predecessor. And some of the most serious songs here, such as "The Light That Has Lighted the World," seem dirge-like. What Living in the Material World shows off far better than the earlier record, however, is Harrison's guitar work — he's the only axeman on Material World, and it does represent his solo playing and songwriting at something of a peak. Most notable are his blues stylings and slide playing, glimpsed on some of the later Beatles sessions but often overlooked by fans. "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long" is driven by a delectable acoustic rhythm guitar and has a great beat. The title track isn't great, but it does benefit from a tight, hard band sound, and "The Lord Loves the One (That Loves the Lord)," despite its title, is the high point of the record, a fast, rollicking, funky, bluesy jewel with a priceless guitar break (maybe the best of Harrison's solo career) that should have been at the heart of any of Harrison's concert set. Vocally, he isn't as self-consciously pretty or restrained here, but it is an honest performance, and his singing soars magnificently in his heartfelt performance on "The Day the World Gets Round." Perhaps a less serious title would have represented the album better, but nobody was looking for self-effacement from any ex-Beatle except Ringo (who's also here, natch) in those days.”

Organ virtuoso, pedagogue, establisher and long-time dramaturgist of the International Organ Festival Prof. Ivan Sokol (1937-2005) significantly raised and enriched the musical life of our city. He stood by the opening of an organ class at the Košice Conservatory; thanks to him we have not only the oldest organ festival in Slovakia but a concert organ in Dom umenia (House of Art) as well.

In official biographies of the prof. Sokol we can find rich information on his concerts in European, American and Asian countries, information on numerous prizes from prestigious interpretation competitions and on his praiseworthy organization and pedagogue activities as well. What we cannot learn from the formal biographies are his human qualities.

The people, he worked with, respected him as a generous man, who was modest and willing to help and with strong sense for justice. Prof. Sokol is an example of artist who in spite of many obstacles and unfavorable social circumstances was able to develop himself into a respected personality. The performing artists will render respect to him also at this year’s festival with a choral overture of J. S.Bach "Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier", which will be played at every concert with a dedication "In memoriam Ivan Sokol".

Pianist Paul Bley has set many milestones along his illustrious career, taking the piano on undiscovered paths and fermenting his art with unbridled imagination. Risk has never daunted him, and even as he takes it, he keeps logic in lockstep.

He is as much at home in avant-garde and free explorations as he is in giving the mainstream a new sparkle, and for a time, even tinkering with electronics. The call to experiment is ever present, wrapped compactly into the history of jazz.

About Time is a solo recording. The pianist lures the listener into his web as he blends technique into the expanse of his creativity. Space and time are worked into a melodic dance, atonality sings besides formal structure, and harmony strikes a rich chord. His time signatures are shaped on the go as a pensive interlude can turn into a lithe romp when he traverses tangents with agile lines.

Bley's sense of invention never ceases, as on the title track where he works the blues seamlessly into the theme and then rustles it with a flurry of notes. He interpolates silence into his scheme as well as he does a lyrical flourish. Change is his compass, surprise his guide.

The mood on "Encore" is playful, setting an exuberant frame within which the artist skitters and gambols, draws back and reflects, and fathoms the deeper recesses of the blues. His artistry is upfront and center. With About Time it takes Bley less than 45 minutes to stamp his virtuosity. (all.about.jazz)
